Unveiled initially to compete with Mercedes-Benz, the E30 M3 won two Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft championship titles in 1987 and 1989. The M-car retained the trailing arm set-up in the rear, but scored a beefier front-end. There were E28 5 Series wheel bearings and caliper mounts, and the strut bodies were enlarged for beefier dampers.
