The History of the GCA Canoeing Association
The GCA offers weekly paddling activities: Paddling Trips. The GCA schedules paddling trips every Saturday and Sunday, throughout the year. Most are one-day paddling trips on rivers 1-3 hours driving time from Atlanta. Rivers frequently paddled on GCA trips include: Trained Beginner (Class 1-2) White Water Rivers. Amicalola-Upper.

The GCA holds a membership meeting or special event every month of the year. Monthly Membership Meetings. The GCA holds monthly meetings, usually on the third Thursday of the month.

Open Canoe Association
Most GCA members use open canoes, decked canoes or kayaks. In 1969 the GCA organized the first whitewater slalom race in the Southeast on the Nantahala River in North Carolina over the July 4th weekend. This Southeastern U.S. Canoe and Kayak Championship race has become a major annual event and attracts paddlers from all over the country.

The Georgia Canoeing Association sponsors the Southeastern United States Slalom and Wildwater Championships on the Nantahala River near Bryson City, North Carolina. This year's races are the 31st Annual and are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, April 29 & 30, 2000. Skill levels of competitors typically range from persons making their racing.
