The murderer first appeared to us as a purple man in those FNAF2 minigames, so we called him that. He was given that name when FNaF 2 released. We had no idea what his name actually was, and we only had his purple sprites to go off of, so we just called him Purple Guy until the release of the Silver Eyes.
